THE INVASION OF MÉXICO

EL VALLE DE COACHELLA8PALM SPRINGS) EN CALIFORNIA Y ANTES DE 1848, PARTE DE MÉXICO.  LA MONTAÑA TIENE ALTURA DE 8,500 PIES.

The United States´ third largest acquisition of land, after the Louisiana Purchase and Alaska, was the result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The signing of this treaty took place in 1848 after the Mexican–American War, also known as the Mexican War, the U.S.–Mexican War or
NADANDO EN LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA EN SEPTIEMBRE
the The Invasion of Mexico.  After 18 months of armed combat,  which lasted from 1846 until the fall of 1847, the consequence of this war was the forced Mexican Cessation of 525,000 square miles.  These lands comprise 14.8% of the current United States.
NIEBLA EN SAN FRANCISCO
As I traveled from northern to southern California for the past three weeks, especially in the desert of the beautiful Coachella Valley (Palm Springs area), I thought of Mexico.

DONATIONS TO PEACEANIMALS:

EDUCATION PROGRAM:  Leslie Caratachea presented to 123 students the week of September 16 at the José Vasconselos school in colonia Aurora.  This is a photo of a male dog with TVT (transmissible venereal tumor), which is commonplace in Mexico and non-existent in the U.S. and Canada.  The tumors are malignant and without chemotherapy, cause death.  This photo is shown to junior high school and high school students.  It is a powerful image (which is why it is a small one in this blog), which illustrates the need to sterilize not just female dogs, but male dogs.  Sterilization is not just about birth control.

RESCUED AND NEED HOMES:

NECESITA AYUDA - CONTACTO:  PURO GATO POR FB

Soraya of Puro Gato, who traps and rescues so many cats and kittens, saw a dog on the street that was suffering with a severe eye injury.  As Soraya only had 20 pesos with her, she was unable to take the dog in a cab to the vet, so walked three miles with her 10-year old son and the dog to Dr. Tamayo´s clinic.  Please contact Dr. Tamayo - 224-0249 or Soraya via Puro Gato on FB if you can help.
"SNOWFLAKE" - RESCATADA Y NECESITA HOGAR - contacto:  shannon@bestonproperties.com

"Snowflake" is what Shannon Beston has named the young female kitten found on the street in the romantic zone.  When I picked her up just before I left for California, her eyes were closed tight with
pus and she was diagnosed by Dr. Tamayo as having a fractured jaw and suffering with a respiratory infection.  After a few days at his clinic, Shannon, who has her hands full with rescue cats and kitten,
offered to care for this one.  Please contact Shannon if interested in adopting a beautiful blue-eyed, long-haired white kitten.  She will have been treated for fleas and parasites and spayed.  shannon@bestonproperties.com

INDIAN SUMMER

San Francisco is normally windy, foggy and cold during the summer months.  In September and much of October, it is blessed with an Indian Summer.  People drive around town in convertibles with tops down honking horns in celebration of this late summer weather.  This September it is unusually warm.  Temperatures are in the high 80's and the light breezes infuse the air in many residential areas with the fragrances of orange blossoms, roses and pine.  In very brown, but still beautiful Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge, it is even warmer.  Temperatures reached 105 degrees and people joyfully flocked to the beaches over Labor Day week-end.
CON MI NIETA EN LA PLAYA DE BOLINAS, CALIFORNIA
The water temperature at Stinson and Bolinas beaches was a pleasantly invigorating 65 degrees, warm enough to do a leisurely swim across the channel and back.  The sleek, wet heads of three seals were not far from us as they headed for the quiet lagoon.   Current water temperature in the Bay of Banderas (Puerto Vallarta) is 85 degrees, which doesn't give much relief from the heat and humidity this month.
